Happiness can be found even in the most challenging situations if you remember to turn toward Lord Sri Krishna. Expressing faith and devotion to the Supreme Lord Krishna is a beautiful way to light the shining lamp of hope, regardless of whether you are a young professional, a family person, a parent, or a veteran. You can remove obstacles in your path and dissipate the darkness of this world by leaving everything at Krishna’s lotus feet.
Why do you light a ghee lamp for Lord Krishna during the Damodara month?
Kartika is the favorite month of Lord Krishna. It is recorded in a conversation between Lord Brahma and Sage Narada in Skanda Purana:
1. If one offers a ghee lamp to Lord Damodara in the month of Kartika, the sins of thousands of births will vanish.
2. Offering a lamp to Lord Damodara in the holy month of Kartika is equivalent to all religious rituals and bathing in sacred rivers.
What is the significance of Damodara Vrata?
Urja-Vrata (also known as Damodara-Vrata) is observed in the month of Kartika (October-November). In Sanskrit, dama means rope, and udara means belly. Damodara refers to Krishna bound with a rope by His mother, Yashoda. Just as Lord Damodara is very dear to Mother Yashoda and His devotees, the month is known as Damodara or Kartika and is also very dear to them. Devotees observe vows and undertake austerities in the month of Kartika to please the Supreme Lord.
What is the significance of the Damodarashtakam song?
In the Linga Purana, there is a statement about singing the glories of the Lord, quoted by Srila Prabhupada: “A brahmana who is constantly engaged in singing the glories of the Lord is elevated to the same planet as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Krishna appreciates this singing even more than the prayers offered by Lord Shiva.” The Damodarashtakam song is an exceptional offering to Lord Krishna, and every time you light a ghee lamp in front of Him, you can attract the Lord by singing your favorite verses from it.
