We come to learn from various authentic sources, Lord Krishna personally made His advent over 500 years ago in a golden complexion to inaugurate this process of congregational chanting as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, in Mayapur, located in Navadvipa, West Bengal.

Sri Navadvipa consists of 9 Islands namely:

Antardvipa
Simantadvipa
Godrumadvipa
Madhyadvipa
Koladvipa
Ritudvipa
Jahnudvipa
Modadrumadvipa
Rudradvipa

Each of these 9 Islands has a high spiritual significance and is imbibed with transcendental qualities. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used to frequently visit these islands with His associates and encourage the congregational chanting of the holy names of Lord Krishna.

Every year, devotees take pleasure in traversing these islands, visiting various temples along the banks of river Ganga and reminiscing the pastimes of Lord Chaitanya. Particularly during the period of Gaura Purnima, the divine appearance day of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
