Srila Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Thakura provides us with historical details about the Mahesha Pandita in his commentary.
Residence:
Sri Mahesha Pandita was from village Palapada, which is situated in the district of Nadia within a forest about one mile south of the Cakadaha railway station. The sacred Ganges flows gently nearby, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of this holy place.
A Story of Migration:
Sri Mahesha Pandita originally resided on the eastern side of Jirat in a village called Masipura (also known as Yasipura). However, when Masipura merged into the riverbed of Ganges, the worshipable Deities had to be relocated. They found their new home in Palapada, a village beautifully situated among neighboring settlements including Beledanga, Berigrama, Sukhasagara, Chandude, and Manasapota. This entire region, comprising about fourteen villages, is collectively known as Pancanagara Paragana.
A Divine Festival:
Once, there was a festival organized by Sri Nityananda Prabhu at Panihati. The great Narottama Dasa Thakura was also present there, and Mahesha Pandita had the fortune to meet Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura on this auspicious occasion.
The Sacred Temple Today:
The temple of Mahesha Pandita houses several worshippable Deities of Sri Gaura-Nityananda, Sri Gopinatha, Sri Madana-mohana, and Sri Radha-Govinda, along with a salagrama-sila.
