ISKCON Bangalore is getting ready to celebrate its 37th annual Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Ratha Yatra in just a few days!
The first Ratha Yatra was conducted way back in the year 1985 when the temple was functioning from its new premises at Bangalore Palace Orchards, Sadashivanagar. There were two beautiful, gigantic Rathas – one for Lord Krishna and the other for Lord Balarama. But due to the unexpected turn of events, both Krishna and Balarama rode on the same chariot. Since then, every year Ratha Yatra is being celebrated by carrying both Krishna and Balarama on a single Ratha with great jubilation. Today this festival is well-known in Bengaluru and thousands of devotees eagerly wait to participate in the celebrations by pulling the Ratha as it passes along the streets of Rajajinagar / Mahalakshmipuram. Hot and tasty prasadam is extensively distributed to people all along the procession route.
However, this year we are faced with special circumstances of COVID precautionary mandate from the government with regulations on large gatherings. Despite this situation, the Ratha Yatra cannot stop. Hence, the Ratha Yatra will be conducted within the temple precincts by the resident devotees on Hare Krishna Hill.
The celebrations will be telecast live and Sri Sri Krishna Balarama are going to appear virtually on your screens. Thus, unlike in the earlier years, participation in the Ratha Yatra will not be limited to only those in the vicinity of the temple, but devotees around the world can participate virtually in the celebrations online.
We eagerly wait for you to join us in the virtual Ratha Yatra at:
The celebrations will be shown live on our Facebook, YouTube and Instagram channels as well.
