Palace Grounds – A little history

palace ground

Bangalore Palace: The sprawling grounds surrounding this is the Palace Grounds

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of urban Bengaluru, lies the majestic Bangalore Palace in the heart of the city. Enclosed by beautiful gardens, this palace not only attracts tourists in large numbers but is also a preferred destination for important events and cultural programs.

The ownership of the palace has changed hands several times, from Reverend Garrett to Chamarajendra Wadiyar of the Wadiyar Dynasty to the British Empire and back to the Mysore royal family.

The palace has a floor area of 45,000 sq. ft, and the sprawling grounds surrounding it called the Palace Grounds are spread across 454 acres. Many cultural events and social functions such as marriage ceremonies, exhibitions, musical concerts, sports events etc., are conducted here.

Over the past few years, Palace Grounds have hosted major artists like Elton John, Backstreet Boys, The Rolling Stones, Akon, and Iron Maiden, to name a few.

It is in this Palace Grounds that Lord Krishna’s appearance, Sri Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated this year!

Labor of Love

Our team of devotees have started meeting regularly and planning intensely for the upcoming event with the intention of giving a divine experience to devotees and visitors.

An onsite meeting was held at Palace Grounds on Thursday, June 1st, 2017.

Devotees meeting at the Palace Grounds on June 1st, 2017

The meeting was led by His Grace Vasudev Keshav Dasa (Vice President, ISKCON Bangalore) and attended by about 30 devotees representing different departments.

From hospitality – to – queue management – to – darshan of Sri Sri Krishna Balarama – to – knowledge sharing – to – exhibits – to – cultural events – to sale counters – to – prasadam distribution, many aspects of the program were discussed.

Devotees reviewed the layout and took a walk through the site.

Devotees raised a lot of interesting questions related to event theme, budget, number of volunteers required, ventilation of the hall, facilities requirements, expected ambience, design of the layout, publicity, prasadam menu, so on and so forth.

A lot of questions were directed at Sri Prahladeesha Dasa (Head of Facility Department), who handled them deftly with a great sense of humor.

Just when the meeting was getting a little heated up, a serving of lemonade and samosa cooled and energized the participants.

Managing an event wherein a turnout of tens of thousands of visitors is expected is quite a daunting challenge. It takes many brains, hands and legs to make an event of this size come to fruition.

An incredible amount of hard work waits in making this happen but the devotees don’t seem to mind it at all. They see this as a labor of love – love for their dear most spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada and the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna!
