Terms & Conditions and Privacy Notice

These terms govern your participation in the Koti Japa Yagna, a devotional chanting initiative organised by ISKCON Bangalore as part of Swagatam Krishna, Janmashtami 2026. By registering, you confirm that you have read and accepted these terms and the privacy notice set out below. We collect and use your personal data in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other applicable Indian law.

1Who we are

The Koti Japa Yagna is organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangalore (“ISKCON Bangalore”, “we”, “us”, “our”). For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, ISKCON Bangalore is the Data Fiduciary that determines how and why your personal data is processed. Our contact details are given at the end of this document.

2Who may register

You may register if you are able to chant on your own and wish to take part. If you are under 18 years of age, you may register only with the consent of your parent or lawful guardian, and by registering you confirm that such consent has been given. We do not knowingly process a child’s personal data without verifiable parental consent, as required by the Act.

3The information we collect

When you register and take part, we collect only what we need to run the yagna:

• Details you give us at registration: your name, mobile number, email address, gender, age and city.
• Your practice: whether you are new to japa or already chant, and the number of rounds you log each day.
• Verification: the one-time code (OTP) used to confirm your mobile number.
• Technical information: basic device and usage information kept in your browser to keep you signed in and to remember your progress.

4How we use your information

We process your personal data to:

• register you for the Koti Japa Yagna and the Swagatam Krishna, Janmashtami 2026 celebration;
• let you log your daily rounds and see your streak and progress;
• add your chanting to the community total and, where applicable, to the leaderboard (see clause 6);
• send you chanting reminders and yagna updates, including through the WhatsApp group you join;
• respond to your questions and provide support; and
• keep the service secure and meet our legal obligations.

5Consent to communications

By ticking the consent box at registration, you agree that ISKCON Bangalore may contact you by mobile message, WhatsApp, email or phone with reminders and updates about this yagna, and also with information, invitations and promotions about any of our other festivals, events and devotional and outreach activities, whether or not they are connected to this yagna. This consent is given freely and you may withdraw it at any time (see clause 10), as easily as you gave it. Withdrawing consent will not affect chanting you have already logged, but may mean we can no longer send you these reminders and updates.

6The leaderboard and public display

The yagna celebrates the community’s collective chanting. Your first name and city may be shown on the public leaderboard and activity feed alongside the number of rounds you have offered. We do not publicly display your mobile number, email address, age or full contact details. If you would prefer not to appear on the leaderboard, please contact us using the details below and we will honour your request.

7How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these limited ways:

• WhatsApp / Meta: when you join a yagna WhatsApp group, your interaction with that group is also governed by WhatsApp’s own terms and privacy policy.
• Trusted service providers: organisations that help us operate the yagna (for example, messaging, hosting and analytics providers), who may process data only on our instructions and under a duty of confidentiality.
• Legal requirements: where we are required to disclose information by law or by a lawful order of a competent authority.

8How we protect your information

We take reasonable technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we work to safeguard your information and to limit access to those who need it to run the yagna.

9How long we keep your information

We keep your personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described above, or for as long as the law requires. When it is no longer needed, we will erase it or anonymise it, unless we are required to retain it. If you withdraw consent or ask us to erase your data, we will act on your request in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

10Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

• access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is processed;
• correct, complete or update your data, and erase data that is no longer needed;
• withdraw your consent at any time;
• nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity; and
• raise a grievance with us, and to complain to the Data Protection Board of India if your concern is not resolved.

11Cookies and local storage

This page stores a small amount of information in your browser (local storage) to keep you signed in and to remember the rounds you have logged. This information stays on your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, though doing so will sign you out and clear your locally saved progress.

12Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, let you know. Continuing to take part after a change means you accept the updated terms.

13Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute relating to them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka.
