The main temple hall was filled with devotees listening to the soothing kirtans
A Kirtan Mela was held in the main temple hall of the temple on the 24th and 25th of December, 2016. This was done to commemorate the significance of ‘Sankirtana Yajna’. Devotees from various Hare Krishna Movement Centers had come to participate in this Kirtan Mela. The event was inaugurated by lighting a lamp by Sri Jai Chaitanya Dasa, Temple President of ISKCON Mysore.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Jai Chaitanya Dasa said, “When we engage in giving the top most pleasure to Their Lordships by chanting together it brings in a lot of purification. Not only because we are chanting the holy name, the Maha-Mantra, this process is far more purifying than our own chanting and chanting together is much more pleasurable to the Lord.”
It is stated in the Kalisantarana Upanishad: “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare — these sixteen names composed of thirty-two syllables are the only means to counteract the evil effects of Kali-yuga. In all Vedas it is observed that to cross the ocean of nescience there is no alternative to the chanting of the holy name.”
Swathi Nayak, who was part of the Kirtan Mela on both days said, “This has been my best Christmas vacation ever. The experience is very sublime and the temple should conduct more and more of such kirtan melas so that it will motivate people to come and attend this music concert and develop a taste for Harinam.”
Sri Suguna Krishna Dasa, event coordinator addressing the devotees at the main temple hall
The main temple hall was abuzz with amazing kirtan and people came in large numbers to attend this mela. Lord Krishna is the Supreme Absolute Truth as revealed in the Vedic literatures like Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam. This truth is also established by great authorities like Sri Vyasadeva, Sri Narada, etc., and it is declared by Lord Krishna Himself in the Gita.
Sri Rajiv Lochan Dasa, Temple President, Hubballi singing at the Kirtan Mela
Lord Krishna being the Absolute Truth, His name is non-different from Him, being fully spiritual and having all the potencies of the Lord. Therefore, when one chants His names, one is purified by coming in direct contact with the Lord who is supremely pure. The spiritual vibration of Hare Krishna maha-mantra acts like a medicine to clean our hearts and destroy our sinful propensities which force us to commit evil acts resulting in miserable returns.
