ISKCON Bangalore conducted a state-level Bhagavad-gita essay writing competition for college students as part of its Gita Jayanti 2020 celebrations.
Around 120 students from different districts of Karnataka wrote and submitted their essays online / through post. The competition was on various topics, based on the Kannada version of “Bhagavad-gita As It Is” authored by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON. The essays were evaluated by eminent scholars and 12 students were selected as the winners.
Students who bagged the top three prizes are as follows:
First Prize: Prajna E P – Lal Bahaddur Shastry Arts Science College, Sagara, Shivamogga
Second Prize: Vidyashree L Achar – K.V.G. College of Engineering, Sulya, Dakshina Kannada
Third prize: Arun Kirimanjeshwara – Vivekananda University, Puttur
Eight students received consolation prizes and one received special consolation prize.
The prize distribution ceremony was held in the temple on February 6, 2021.
Cash prizes amounting to Rs. 50,000 as well as certificates were awarded to the winners who had been invited to the temple along with their parents.
The ceremony was presided over by His Grace Chanchalapathi Dasa, Senior Vice President of ISKCON Bangalore.
Prof. Mallepuram G. Venkatesh, Former Vice Chancellor, Karnataka Sanskrit University was the Guest of Honour.
Prof. K. E. Radhakrishna, well-known educationalist and poet, was the Chief Guest.
