His devotional life is famed for its purity, its residence on the banks of the sacred Ga\u1e45g\u0101, and the miraculous nature of his initiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sri-saranga-thakura-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7829\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sri-saranga-thakura-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sri-saranga-thakura-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sri-saranga-thakura-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sri-saranga-thakura-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/sri-saranga-thakura.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Position in Chaitanya&#8217;s Lineage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura&#8217;s importance is recognized by Sri K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47ad\u0101sa Kavir\u0101ja Gosw\u0101m\u012b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the <em>Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita<\/em>, he is listed as the <strong>seventy-seventh branch<\/strong> of the original tree of Sri Chaitanya Mah\u0101prabhu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He resided in <strong>Modadruma-dvipa<\/strong>, a neighborhood of Navadv\u012bpa, where he regularly worshiped the Supreme Lord in a secluded place on the bank of the Ganga.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Miraculous Initiation of Mur\u0101ri<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Though generally <strong>not inclined to accept disciples<\/strong>, a divine inspiration changed the course of Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura&#8217;s day and a devotee&#8217;s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Vow:<\/strong> Inspired by the Supreme Lord from within his heart, he resolved one morning, <strong>\u201cWhomever I see first today, I shall make my disciple.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Disciple:<\/strong> While going for his morning bath in the Ga\u1e45g\u0101, the first thing he saw was a <strong>dead body floating in the water<\/strong>. As soon as he touched it with his feet, the body immediately came back to life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Result:<\/strong> Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura then accepted this revived person as his disciple. This disciple was none other than the famous <strong>Thakura Mur\u0101ri<\/strong>, whose name has always been associated with his spiritual master, Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>His Eternal and Earthly Abodes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The devotional lineage and physical sites associated with Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura continue to be important today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Disciplic Line:<\/strong> His disciplic line still resides in the village of <strong>\u015aar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Temples:<\/strong> In <strong>M\u0101mag\u0101chi<\/strong>, there is a temple said to have been established by Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura. A new temple has recently been built near a <em>bakula<\/em> tree there and is now managed by the Gau\u1e0d\u012bya Ma\u1e6dha.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eternal Identity in Vraja<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura is also connected to K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a\u2019s pastimes in V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gopi N\u0101nd\u012bmukh\u012b:<\/strong> According to the <em>Gaura-ga\u1e47odde\u015ba-d\u012bpik\u0101<\/em> (172), S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura was formerly the gopi named <strong>N\u0101nd\u012bmukh\u012b<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alternative View:<\/strong> Although some devotees suggested he was previously Prahl\u0101da Maharaja, Sri Kavi-kar\u1e47ap\u016bra, the son of \u015aiv\u0101nanda Sena, did not accept this view.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sri S\u0101ra\u1e45ga Thakura (also known as S\u0101ra\u1e45gap\u0101\u1e47i or S\u0101ra\u1e45gadhara) was an exalted associate of Sri Chaitanya Mah\u0101prabhu.
