As we enter into the auspicious ten days of the Dasara, which will culminate in the Vijayadashami, the day of victory of Good, represented by Lord <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/ramanavami-vrata\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Celebrating Sri Rama Navami: Observing the Vrata to Please Lord Sri Rama\">Rama<\/a> over the Evil-Ravana; we bring you a series of narrations from Ramayana, describing ten transcendental qualities of Lord Ramachandra, one for every day of the Dussehra.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Please read and relish, like and share these articles, and you may also leave your comments to us.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Quality 6<\/strong>:&nbsp;<strong>Lord R<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>ma, the Grateful<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Every individual must possess the quality of being grateful. The act of feeling or showing an appreciation for something done or received makes one a better individual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lord R\u0101ma irrespective of his situation, either as a prince or an exiled man, was ever grateful to every individual he came across. The epic of R\u0101m\u0101ya\u1e47a narrates a heart-warming tale of Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu and the ever grateful R\u0101ma.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Meeting Ja<\/strong><strong>\u1e6d\u0101<\/strong><strong>yu<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trio on their journey to Panchavati came across a giant vulture lying in a clearing. R\u0101ma and Lak\u1e63man, assuming it to be a R\u0101k\u1e63asa, hastily prepared themselves for a fight. Lord R\u0101ma carefully approached the vulture and asked who he was. In a gentle speech, the bird replied that he was an old friend of Da\u015baratha. He was Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu, the nephew of Garu\u00f2a, the invincible eagle carrier of Vi\u1e63\u1e47u.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu warned R\u0101ma about the R\u0101k\u1e63asas and then offered his service to protect S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;when they went out to gather food. Lord R\u0101ma, gratefully embraced the great bird and they continued toward Panchavati.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At Panchavati, they settled in the dwelling and lived peacefully, bathing in the God\u0101var\u012b&nbsp;and enjoying the sights and sounds of the forest.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u015a\u016b<\/strong><strong>rpa<\/strong><strong>\u1e47<\/strong><strong>akh<\/strong><strong>\u0101\u2019s <\/strong><strong>revenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After Lord R\u0101ma demolished all of the demon armies, \u015a\u016brpa\u1e47akh\u0101 escaped to her brother, R\u0101va\u1e47a and fell at his feet, wailing piteously. \u015a\u016brpa\u1e47akh\u0101 displayed her disfigured face and harshly narrated her story. Hearing such a searing rebuke enraged R\u0101va\u1e47a who shook with anger and rose up quickly from his golden throne. She described to him, R\u0101ma\u2019s annihilation of the R\u0101k\u1e63asas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">R\u0101va\u1e47a was angered, by R\u0101ma\u2019s annihilation of the R\u0101k\u1e63asas but for the mutilation of his sister, He took it personally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u015a\u016brpa\u1e47akh\u0101 longed for revenge. S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;was the cause of her mutilation. The R\u0101k\u1e63as\u012b&nbsp;wanted the princess to be taken from R\u0101ma so that both R\u0101ma and S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;would feel intolerable pain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>R<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>va<\/strong><strong>\u1e47<\/strong><strong>a\u2019s Lust<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u015a\u016brpa\u1e47akh\u0101 knew that her brother was lusty. He had no regard for moral laws and took pleasure in enjoying other\u2019s wives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The R\u0101k\u1e63as\u012b&nbsp;described S\u012bt\u0101,&nbsp;\u201cHer dark eyes and hair contrast vividly with the hue and lustre of Her body, which resembles molten gold. Her breasts, hips and thighs are exquisitely shaped, and She shines like the Goddess Lak\u1e63m\u012b. Her countenance is like a full moon. Her thin waist and delicate limbs are beyond compare. I have seen no woman like Her on the earth, be she a Goddess, Gandharva or Yak\u00f1a. Any man embraced with delight by S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;will enjoy happiness greater than that of Indra. Without a doubt that peerless female, who is of a gentle disposition, would be a worthy consort for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">R\u0101va\u1e47a\u2019s mind was captivated by the description which his sister presented. He considered how he might win her. Arrogantly he assumed that She would be attracted to him, the great and powerful king of the R\u0101k\u1e63asas.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>S<\/strong><strong>\u012b<\/strong><strong>t<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>\u2019s kidnapping<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">R\u0101va\u1e47a had made up his mind. He at once flew to Maricha asking him an assist in S\u012bt\u0101\u2019s abduction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">R\u0101va\u1e47a transformed himself into a human ascetic, wearing matted locks and simple dress, he waited in the woods near Lord R\u0101ma\u2019s hermitage. Meanwhile, Maricha used mystical powers to assume the form of an enchanting deer. Nibbling at leaves here and there, he went into the region of R\u0101ma\u2019s hermitage. S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;was outside the hut plucking flowers. She immediately saw the wonderful-looking deer. S\u012bt\u0101, due to Her womanly nature, became captivated by the deer. She then requested Lord R\u0101ma to capture it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As soon as Maricha had taken Lord R\u0101ma to a distance, R\u0101ma recognizing the deer to be a R\u0101k\u1e63asa shot an arrow and killed him. Maricha further used his magical powers to allure Lak\u1e63man, imitating R\u0101ma\u2019s voice, the R\u0101k\u1e63asa cried out in distress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When Lak\u1e63man and S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;heard the cry, anxious and angry S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;thrash-talked and insulted Lakshmana ordering Him to, immediately find R\u0101ma. As soon as Lak\u1e63man had gone, R\u0101va\u1e47a came out of hiding, to abduct the unprotected S\u012bt\u0101. In a human form, he approached S\u012bt\u0101, and as he gazed at Her, the demon was pierced, by Cupid\u2019s arrow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">R\u0101va\u1e47a took S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;in his arms, scolding Her sharply, and he placed her in the chariot. As the chariot rose up, S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;called for R\u0101ma at the top of her voice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Fight with R<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>va<\/strong><strong>\u1e47<\/strong><strong>a<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu heard S\u012bt\u0101\u2019s cry and looked up. He saw the chariot with R\u0101va\u1e47a and S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;on board. From the&nbsp;tree, he called out to the R\u0101k\u1e63asa, whom he immediately recognized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu was infuriated. He challenged R\u0101va\u1e47a. When R\u0101va\u1e47a heard Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu\u2019s challenge, he veered his chariot toward him and rushed angrily at the king of birds, raining him with blows from his twenty arms. Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu assailed R\u0101va\u1e47a with his sharp talons. As the great bird screamed, R\u0101va\u1e47a roared.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4990 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/jatayu-unwinged-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"178\" height=\"252\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/jatayu-unwinged-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/jatayu-unwinged.jpg 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu ignoring his wounds, bravely fought R\u0101va\u1e47a. He broke R\u0101va\u1e47a\u2019s large jewel-encrusted bow and then tore off the heads of R\u0101va\u1e47a\u2019s mules. With a blow from his bill, he killed the charioteer. Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu then smashed R\u0101va\u1e47a\u2019s chariot. As the chariot fell in pieces, the R\u0101k\u1e63asa grabbed hold of S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;and dropped to the ground.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu then tore-off R\u0101va\u1e47a\u2019s ten left arms which immediately regenerated back. Tormented by Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu, the R\u0101k\u1e63asa darted toward him, taking a razor-sharp sword, he lopped off Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu\u2019s wings. The great vulture, fell on the ground, dying. With his white breast reddened with blood, he resembled a large cloud tinged by the setting sun. S\u012bt\u0101&nbsp;cried out and ran toward him. Gently, stroking his head, She called out R\u0101ma.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Act of Gratitude<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lord R\u0101ma considered Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu to be as worthy of His worship as Da\u015baratha. Despite S\u012bt\u0101\u2019s&nbsp;kidnapping, heartbroken&nbsp;R\u0101ma <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4991 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/P-088-e1570192444636-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/P-088-e1570192444636-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/P-088-e1570192444636.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/>asked Lak\u1e63man to fetch logs so that they could build a funeral pyre. Grateful R\u0101ma looked at the bird and said,&nbsp;\u201cYou will attain unsurpassed realms of happiness, O king of birds. Never again will you take birth in this mortal world of pain and suffering.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;R\u0101ma who couldn\u2019t perform, his beloved father\u2019s cremation, himself carried out the final rites reciting the sacred mantras and cremated Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both brothers went to the God\u0101var\u012b, they bathed in the river and then offered its sacred water to Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu\u2019s departed soul. After the completion of the final ritual, R\u0101ma and Lak\u1e63man were pleased, acknowledging that, Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu had advanced to the divine regions of un-ending happiness. Then they fixed their minds on S\u012bt\u0101 and went to find her as directed by Ja\u1e6d\u0101yu, before his demise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jaya Sri Ram!
