Srimad Bh\u0101gavatam compares the innumerable incarnations of the Lord to the rivulets flowing from inexhaustible sources of water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><em>avat\u0101<\/em><em>r\u0101<\/em><em> hy asa\u1e45<\/em><em>khyey\u0101<\/em><em> hare\u1e25<\/em><em> sattva-nidher dvij\u0101\u1e25<\/em><em><br \/>\nyath\u0101<\/em><em>vid\u0101<\/em><em>sina\u1e25<\/em><em> kuly\u0101\u1e25<\/em><em> sarasa\u1e25<\/em><em> syu\u1e25<\/em><em> sahasra\u015b<\/em><em>a\u1e25<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>avat\u0101<\/em><em>r\u0101<\/em><em> hy asa\u1e45<\/em><em>khyey\u0101<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0It is not possible to count. But they are all one. They are described as\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>a\u1e41\u015b<\/em><em>a-kal\u0101\u1e25<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0plenary expansions or parts of the plenary expansions. Krishna is the fountainhead of all incarnations:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>ete c\u0101\u1e41\u015b<\/em><em>a-kal\u0101\u1e25<\/em><em> pu\u1e41<\/em><em>sa\u1e25<\/em><em> k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47<\/em><em>as tu bhagav\u0101<\/em><em>n svaya\u1e41<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/childhood-pastimes-chaitanya-mahaprabhu\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"Chaitanya Bala Lila: Childhood Pastimes of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu\">Chaitanya<\/a> Charitamrita it is mentioned:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>ekale \u012b\u015b<\/em><em>vara k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47<\/em><em>a, \u0101<\/em><em>ra saba bh\u1e5b<\/em><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">tya:<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>Krishna alone is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and all others, not only the living entities, even the various other forms of Krishna are His servitors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The various incarnations of the Lord appear in this material world with a very specific mission to accomplish. Their activities are extraordinary. No other human being can perform such activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Srila Prabhupada says:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Lord is the inexhaustible source for innumerable incarnations which are distinguished by specific extraordinary feats which are impossible to be performed by any living being.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Pastime Incarnations<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>paritr<\/em><em>\u0101\u1e47\u0101<\/em><em>ya s<\/em><em>\u0101<\/em><em>dh<\/em><em>\u016b<\/em><em>n<\/em><em>\u0101\u1e41<\/em><em> vin<\/em><em>\u0101\u015b\u0101<\/em><em>ya ca du<\/em><em>\u1e63<\/em><em>k<\/em><em>\u1e5b<\/em><em>t<\/em><em>\u0101<\/em><em>m<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0The Lord appears in every millennium to protect His devotees.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/sri-narasimha-lila\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lord Narasi\u1e41ha<\/a><\/span>\u00a0appeared to protect His devotee Prahlada. The Lord appeared as Matsya, K\u016brma, Var\u0101ha, Narasi\u1e41ha, V\u0101mana, and many others: and every time He had a specific purpose or mission to execute.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>When the whole world was deep within the water He appeared in the form of a fish and protected King Satyavrata and gave him transcendental knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>When the devat\u0101s and asur\u0101s churned the milk ocean using the Mandar\u0101cala Hill as the churning rod, He appeared in the form of a tortoise to hold the hill by serving as a pivot.<\/li>\n<li>When the demon Hiranyaksha dislocated the Earth from its orbit and threw it into the Garbhodhaka Ocean, the Lord appeared in the form of a wild boar to the rescue.<\/li>\n<li>He appeared in the half-man, half-lion form (Narasi\u1e41ha) to protect Prahl\u0101da, and later on<\/li>\n<li>He appeared in the form of a dwarf-br\u0101hma\u1e47a (V\u0101mana) to deliver Bali Mah\u0101raj\u0101, the grandson of Prahl\u0101da Mah\u0101r\u0101<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even the future incarnations of the Lord and the purpose of His advent are clearly mentioned in scriptures like Srimad Bh\u0101gavatam. Such incarnations are called\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>shakty\u0101<\/em><em>vesha-avat\u0101<\/em><em>ras<\/em><\/span>\u00a0(empowered incarnations).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">N\u0101rada, the four Kum\u0101ras (Sanaka, San\u0101tana, Sananda, and Sanatkum\u0101ra), Kapila, King \u1e5a\u1e63abhadeva,\u00a0Mah\u0101r\u0101ja P\u1e5bthu, Para\u015bur\u0101ma, Buddha are all empowered incarnations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They appeared to reach the message of Godhead to people according to the time, place, and circumstances. Their mission was to lead people to God consciousness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The four Kum\u0101ras preached the philosophical way of understanding the Absolute Truth. Kapila presented the s\u0101\u1e45khya philosophy that describes the real nature of the soul. N\u0101rada presented the science of devotional service (s\u0101tvata-tantra).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vy\u0101sadeva divided the one Veda into several branches and sub-branches, so that the people of Kali Yuga, who are less intelligent, can take advantage of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When materialism was rampant and materialists were using the pretext of Vedic authority to kill animals in sacrifice, Lord Buddha appeared to stop the killing of animals and establish the principles of nonviolence. He even asked them to reject the Vedas. To establish religious principles suitable for the period.<\/td>\n<td width=\"191\">Changing the heart of millions of people through their teachings<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Srila Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), who took up the mission of spreading the yuga-dharma of chanting the Holy Names of the Lord and preached the message of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/bhagavad-gita-as-it-is.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bhagavad-gita<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and Srimad Bhagavatam by traveling around the globe, is also an empowered incarnation of the Lord. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu proclaimed that unless empowered by Krishna, one cannot propagate the sa\u1e45k\u012brtana movement.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47<\/em><em>a-\u015b<\/em><em>akti vin\u0101<\/em><em> nahe t\u0101<\/em><em>ra pravartana<\/em><\/span>. On the authority of this statement, we can understand the special and unique position of Srila Prabhupada.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Archa Incarnation<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Lord also appears in the form of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>archa-vigraha<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0the worshipable Deity. The Deity is made of material elements like clay, stone, metal or wood, but there is no material contamination. The form of the Lord is spiritual. Why did He appear in the archa form? That is the defect of our material senses. In order to be seen by our material senses, the Supreme Personality of Godhead accepts a favorable form which is called arc\u0101-vigraha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is an opportunity for us to serve Him. We can see Him in that form (dar\u015bana) and meditate on Him (dhy\u0101na); we can cook food and offer to Him (naivedya); we can bathe Him (abhi\u015beka) we can dress Him up with fine clothes and jewelry (\u015b\u1e5b\u1e45g\u0101ra); we can offer \u0101rati; we can offer our prayers (vandana).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Lord accepts our service through the arca-vigraha and fully reciprocates our devotion. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>n\u0101<\/em><em>mn\u0101<\/em><em>m ak\u0101<\/em><em>ri bahudh\u0101<\/em><em> nija-sarva-\u015b<\/em><em>akti\u1e25<\/em><em> tatr\u0101<\/em><em>rpit\u0101<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0there are innumerable names of the Supreme Lord invested with all His potencies.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>abhinnatv\u0101<\/em><em>n n\u0101<\/em><em>ma-n\u0101<\/em><em>mino\u1e25<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0Krishna and Krishna\u2019s names are identical. There is no difference.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>aniyamita\u1e25<\/em><em> smara\u1e47<\/em><em>e na k\u0101<\/em><em>la\u1e25<\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0There are no hard and fast rules. He appeared in the form of Holy Name to deliver us; to lift us out of ignorance and take us back to Godhead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When the Lord appears in the form of archa-m\u016brti we can serve Him in different ways. How do we serve the Lord when He appears in the form of the Holy Name? We have to chant these Holy Names with great attention and reverence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What are the pastimes of Nama-avat\u0101ra?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>ceto-darpa\u1e47<\/em><em>a-m\u0101<\/em><em>rjana\u1e41<\/em>:<\/span>\u00a0This is the first effect. As we chant the Holy Name, our heart is cleansed of material contamination and thus our existence is purified.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Srila Prabhupada went to the United States, a foreign land, where no one knew about Krishna. No one was interested in spiritual life. Materialism was rampant in the western civilization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Srila Prabhupada chanted in the parks and invited them for attending the lectures on Bhagavad-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iskconbangalore.org\/blog\/why-bhagavad-gita-as-it-is\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"Why \u2018Bhagavad Gita As It Is\u2019?\">gita<\/a>. He asked them to chant and distributed prasadam. The Holy Name is identical with the Supreme Lord. So we should try to serve the Holy Names.
