Lord Nityananda<\/a><\/span> and Haridasa Thakura approach Jagai and Madhai, the two degraded brahmanas and request them to chant Hare Krishna.<\/p>\n

Scene 5<\/strong>: The house of a prostitute<\/p>\n

Jagai and Madhai are sitting on diwans. Opposite them on another divan a woman is sitting in the midst of the tabla player & sitar player. She is singing a song that glorifies the pleasures available in this material world. Jagai and Madhai are enjoying the song.<\/p>\n

Next to them there is an antique jug with liquor in it. They are pouring the liquor from the jugs into their glasses as and when the glasses are getting emptied.<\/p>\n

Suddenly she hears the kirtana outside on the streets:<\/p>\n

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare<\/em>
\nHare Rama<\/a> Hare Rama<\/a> Rama Rama Hare Hare<\/em><\/p>\n

The prostitute\u2019s attention gets diverted. She becomes immersed in the melodious kirtana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\n(hiccup) continue (in a deep voice shouts) Sing\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nki holo?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Prostitute<\/strong><\/td>\n(comes back to senses and sings; but gets diverted and sings Hare Krishna mantra.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\n(shouts) Stop it\u2026 (she stops singing)
\nEh.. Jagai and Madhai are not here to listen to your bhajans lady\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nLife is for enjoying \u2026 don\u2019t waste our time!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nEh.. dont waste<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Prostitute<\/strong><\/td>\n(tries to sing; but automatically gets dragged back to the bhajan) No\u2026 it\u2019s not possible. What can I do?<\/p>\n

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare<\/em>
\nHare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare<\/em><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t you hear it? Oh, how sweet, how beautiful!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nMadhai, What is that noise outside?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nLet us go and see\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Jagai and Madhai rush out of the house.<\/p>\n

Scene 6<\/strong>: On the street outside the house of prostitute<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\n(to the kirtan party) What are you all doing here?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nJagai, they are coming to the prostitute\u2019s house to do bhajans! (both of them laugh)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nWhat work do you have on this street where only prostitutes live?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n(steps forward from the kirtana party) The names of Lord Hari can save all the sinful beings in this world. There is no distinction. Beggars, prostitutes, diseased ones and even those who have committed the worst of the abominable sins can absolve themselves just by chanting<\/a><\/span> the holy names of the Lord. I request you to chant the names of Hari along with us<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nDon\u2019t try to teach us. You have no business here. Get away from here soon!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nYes \u2026 get out \u2026 or you will suffer the consequences!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mukunda<\/strong><\/td>\n(Mukunda is holding a khol in his hand) (drags Nityananda) Prabhu\u2026 they are intoxicated. They are trying to pick up a quarrel. Let us go.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nMadhai, What is that noise outside?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nLet us go and see\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Mukunda pulls Lord Nityananda and Haridasa Thakura aside; Jagai and Madhai go into the house.<\/p>\n

Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nMukunda\u2026 most of the population in this world are sinful. It is not their mistake. It is the evil influence of Kali. Are we not supposed to preach to them? (to Haridasa) Is it not the mission of our Lord? Let us not retract from it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nYes\u2026 I agree. We cannot step back.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nIf we can deliver these two fallen souls, the name of Lord Chaitanya<\/a><\/span> will be glorified.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mukunda<\/strong><\/td>\nBut, my Lord, you do not know them\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nMukunda\u2026 Let us simply repeat the message of the Lord to these drunks. That is our only business.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Lord Nityananda and Haridasa Thakura go to the doorstep of the prostitute\u2019s house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nBrothers \u2026 please come out. We have something to deliver to you.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Jagai and Madhai come out of the house<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nYou\u2026 again? Why are you still hanging around here?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nTo teach morality to prostitutes? If you convert them all into saintly women, we will start hunting the women from your houses. Beware!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nNo\u2026 My dear brothers! We have something very important to deliver to you.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\n\u2026 Going to deliver us? (laughs) We are already enjoying the pleasures of heaven!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nHeavenly pleasures are at our doorstep\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nWhat I can give you is a priceless commodity that has descended from the spiritual world. Please chant with me: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare<\/em>
\nHare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nJagai\u2026 enough of talk. Drive them away!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\nNo\u2026 Catch them and beat \u2026 (they are leaving the place in search of rods and the dialogue fades)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nPrabhu\u2026 let us go<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Both of them search for some weapons \u2026Jagai and Madhai go inside the house<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mukunda<\/strong><\/td>\nThey do not even hesitate to kill people. Come on, we should go away from here!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Jagai and Madhai come out with rods in their hands and try to beat whoever they can catch. But as they are drunk, they are not successful in most of their attempts. All the devotees scatter.<\/p>\n

Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nKrishna\u2026 please save us!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Jagai<\/strong><\/td>\n(calling after them) You cheaters\u2026 You cannot escape us!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\n(retreating from the place) Haridasa\u2026 Let us run! They are after us!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Nityananda drags Haridasa and they leave in haste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\nWhere do you think you are going? We will not spare you.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Jagai and Madhai chase them.<\/p>\n

Scene 7<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mukunda, Haridasa and Nityananda enter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\n(gasping for breath) I am an old man\u2026 I cannot run like this.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nHaridasa, we are lucky to come out of this alive! The Lord saved us.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nWhat do we do now? I cannot run any more\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Madhai<\/strong><\/td>\n(from behind the curtain) There they are \u2026 Jagai, this side!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nO Krishna\u2026 they are here!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nRun\u2026 they are behind us!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Nityananda drags Haridasa and goes away, Mukunda also runs behind them\u2026<\/p>\n

Jagai and Madhai enter and look around. They search for the devotees.  They decide to go in different directions to catch them. Both of them, in their search for devotees, move backwards (with their back to each other), collide with each other and mistaking that the other person is an attacker they hit each other, and fall down unconscious.<\/p>\n

Silence for a while.  Yamaraja, Chitragupta and the Yama-kinkaras enter.  Yamaraja looks very angry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Yamaraja<\/strong><\/td>\nWho are these drunkards?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Citragupta<\/strong><\/td>\nMaharaj \u2026 They are the perfect representation of degraded brahmanas. The elder one is Jagadananda and the younger one is Madhavananda. They are known as Jagai and Madhai. They are the most fallen. Drunkards, meat-eaters, woman-hunters, debauchees\u2026. there are no words to describe these lowly creatures.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Yamaraja<\/strong><\/td>\nIgnorant and foolish men!.  How dare they behave like this to Lord Nityananda?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Citragupta<\/strong><\/td>\nTheir sins are innumerable. If my assistants were to sit down and calculate the sins of these two, they will never conclude even after a month. The records of their sinful activities are kept in bottomless pits.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Yama-kinkaras<\/strong><\/td>\nMaharaj\u2026 Order us\u2026 We will immediately do the needful. At long last we have found some persons in this village of Navadvipa, on whom we can lay our hands!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Narada<\/strong><\/td>\n(Enters) Stop O servants of Yamaraja, do not hurry!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

All of them offer obeisance to Narada<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Narada<\/strong><\/td>\nThey are still not under your jurisdiction.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Yamaraja<\/strong><\/td>\n(angrily) But they should be punished for their misdeeds.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Narada<\/strong><\/td>\nOf course\u2026 they should be.  If they come under your jurisdiction after their death.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Citragupta<\/strong><\/td>\nWhy not? They are definitely under our jurisdiction. We are spending hours noting down each and every sinful act of theirs.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Narada<\/strong><\/td>\nBut\u2026 Lord Nityananda has already cast his glance upon them.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Yamaraja<\/strong><\/td>\nI do not understand.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Narada<\/strong><\/td>\n(with a smile) Wait and see\u2026 what happens next\u2026<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Scene 8<\/strong>: The House of Srivasa Pandita, Navadvipa<\/p>\n

Lord Chaitanya<\/a> is sitting on an elevated platform in front of the house of Srivasa Pandita. Srivasa sitting next to him is reading from a book. Advaita, Gadadhara, Vasudeva and a few more devotees are listening to it with rapt attention.<\/p>\n

Srivasa<\/strong><\/td>\nThe great devotee of the Lord, Maharaja Ambarisha, was waiting for Durvasa Muni\u2019s return, to break the Ekadashi<\/a> fast. Durvasa Muni did not come back. On the advice of learned brahmanas, Maharaja Ambarisha took little water to formally break the fast.  Durvasa Muni understood this by his mystic power. He was very angry. He chastised the king.  And created a demon by his mystic power to kill the King.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\n(gets up with great anger) Anyone who hurts my devotee should be punished.  Durvasa\u2026 Your mystic powers cannot hurt my devotee.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

All the devotees become wonderstruck and stand up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Advaita<\/strong><\/td>\nMahaprabhu! Mahaprabhu!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Srivasa<\/strong><\/td>\nMahaprabhu!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Lord Chaitanya recovers slightly from his ecstatic mood (as protector of Ambarisha).<\/p>\n

The sound of Nityananda and Haridasa shouting Krishna\u2026 Krishna\u2026 (they enter gasping for breath) Behind them comes Mukunda.<\/p>\n

\"param3-6\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Advaita<\/strong><\/td>\nOh.. you are back!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\n(still gasping) Yes \u2026 and by mercy of Krishna, we are alive!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\nWhat happened?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nMy Lord, something strange happened today. As ordered by you, we were going door to door, preaching to people, asking them to chant the holy names of Krishna.
\nToday, we came across two drunkards \u2013 Jagai and Madhai.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Srivasa<\/strong><\/td>\n(shocked) Jagai and Madhai? Those culprits? Why did you go to them?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\n(turning to Srivasa) Nityananda Prabhu\u2019s mercy is so deep for the fallen souls of this world that he is prepared to do anything to spiritually uplift them. He approached Jagai and Madhai and requested them to chant the holy names.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mukunda<\/strong><\/td>\n(enters with a khol in his hand) And we almost lost our lives in their hands.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\nI will destroy them at once.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nMy Lord, why do you want to destroy them? If you start taking up your weapon to vanquish the demons, you have to wipe out this entire world; because in this fallen age of Kali, most of the people are demoniac. These two are the foremost of the debauchees\u2026 If they are delivered then Your name will be glorified. Your fame will reach unlimited bounds.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\n(with compassion) They are already delivered, Nityananda.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nityananda<\/strong><\/td>\nWhat do you mean?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\nI said they are already delivered.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Haridasa<\/strong><\/td>\nBut\u2026 how?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\nHaridasa, they were delivered as soon as Nityananda cast His glance upon them.  Krishna will take full care of them now.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Devotees<\/strong><\/td>\nHari bol!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chaitanya<\/strong><\/td>\nSrivasa\u2026 please call Murari and Vakresvara. Let us all go to the banks of Ganga, singing the holy names of the Lord.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Mukunda and Vasudeva lead the kirtan.<\/p>\n
