Sri Krishna Kalakshetra, the cultural wing of ISKCON Bangalore, has been organizing various cultural events during its main festivals like Sri Brahmotsava, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Sri Vaikuntha Ekadashi, Geeta Saptaha and so on for the past several years. On these occasions, not only renowned artistes perform but an opportunity is also provided for all upcoming artistes to showcase their talents during the Sangeeta Seva for the pleasure of Their Lordships Sri Radha Krishnachandra and Their devotees.
Various Bhajana Mandalis enroll themselves to perform in the regular concerts which are conducted on Sunday mornings and evenings. Here mainly Haridasa kritis on Sri Krishna and His incarnations will be sung by Bhajana Sevakartas. The evening Sangeeta Seva comprises mainly of Carnatic, Hindustani and Instrumental concerts.
Sri Krishna Kalakshetra has been conferring the titles – Asthana Vidwan and Asthana Vidushi – on the eminent musicians of our country for their contribution to the preservation of music and culture.
During the conferring ceremony held on November 26, 2011, Sangeeta Vidyanidhi Dr. Vidyabhushana, Karnataka Kalashree Vid. C. Ramadas, Ganakalabhushana Vid. R. K. Padmanabha, Karnataka Kalashree Vid. B. K. Chandramouli, Ganakalashree Dr. T. S. Sathyavathi and Ganakalashree Vid. M. S. Sheela were honored with the respective titles by the Temple President Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa.
On this occasion Vid. R. K. Padmanabha gave a concert which enthralled the audience that included a large number of music lovers and students of music. He was accompanied by Vid. C. N. Chandrashekar (Violin), Vid. N. Rajkamal (Flute), Vid. C. Cheluvaraju (Mridangam) and Pt. Vishwanath Nakod (Tabla).
Sri Tiru Dasa, Director of Sri Krishna Kalakshetra and Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa – Vice President of ISKCON Bangalore graced the occasion.
It is worth noting here that in a similar ceremony held on Aug 13, 2010, Sangeetha Choodamani Prof. R. Visweswaran, Nadabrahma Kurudi Venkannachar, Karnataka Kalashree Vid. A.V. Anand, Ubhayagana Vidushi Dr. Shyamala G. Bhave and Karnataka Kalashree Vid. T. A. S. Mani were conferred Asthana Vidwan/ Asthana Vidushi titles.
And in the year 2009, the Asthana Vidwan awardees included the eminent musicians – Padma Bhushana Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. R. K. Srikantan, Violin Maestro Padma Bhushana Dr. L. Subramaniam and Saxophone Chakravarti Padmashree Dr. Kadri Gopalanath.
