 Srila Prabhupada
 Book Festival 2008-09

November 30 to January 04

Srila Prabhupada was ordered by his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, to distribute Vedic literature so that people would be educated about the purpose of human life. Srila Prabhupada made it his life's foremost mission to translate the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam to English. He instructed his disciples to print as many of these books in as many languages as possible and distribute them throughout the world. The books of His Divine Grace have been the greatest source of spiritual knowledge in the world in recent times.

ISKCON devotees around the world conduct book marathons every year in December, in keeping with the spirit of Christmas, which is considered the season for giving, the world over. Devotees of the ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna Chandra temple at Bangalore, in commemoration of Gita Jayanti (the auspicious anniversary of the day that Lord Krishna spoke the holy Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra), hold a book distribution marathon in December every year too.

Hundreds of devotees meet people from all walks of life and inspire them to buy and read Srila Prabhupada's books and thus free themselves of the suffering of material existence. These books are meant to create a revolution in the heart and relieve the suffering of humanity by changing people's perceptions of life, helping them understand what is really is.

We welcome our donors and life patron members to participate in the book marathon by contributing towards the printing of Srila Prabhupada's books.
